On January 15, 2009 an extraordinary pilot, known as "Sully," safely guided all 155 passengers and crew aboard US Airways Flight 1549 to an emergency water landing in the frigid Hudson River after its twin engines shut down after sucking in a flock of birds.
The BBC in reporting about the Miracle on the Hudson said: "If you could choose a pilot to crash-land your plane, Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger III would be a good choice." (the article)
I'd say that the universe did pick Sully to pilot that plane.
If Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III (born January 23, 1951) had recently visited with an astrologer, then he would have likely heard that with transiting Uranus (the astrological planet of the unexpected) about to be conjuncting his karmic birth North Node in mid January 2009 that he should be prepared for the unpredictable.
Yep! New experiences were likely to abound for Captain Sully, possibly prompting a change of direction more in line with his true and ultimate purpose in life. It was likely that his life would take an unexpected turn and that he might discover where he truly belonged.
With transiting Jupiter also conjuncting his birth Sun, it would be a time of optimism and self-confidence, feeling that he could take on the world. It would be a time that he might likely receive recognition and appreciation.
The further good news was that with transiting Jupiter also trining his birth Saturn, he would likely be able to successfully shoulder any responsibilities that might come his way, helping him make the most of new opportunities to expand his world. He would be feeling confident in many areas of his life, using his good judgement in order to make decisions that had the potential for long-term success. It would be a time to tap into his own wisdom.
Summing it up, mid January 2009 would be a time to sieze opportunities in the knowledge that Captain Sully was on the right track.
Looking at the Charts
The event chart of the Miracle on the Hudson is striking on its own merit with Uranus, Saturn, and Mars all conjuncting various chart angles. Uranus (the unexpected) is conjunct the Midheaven. Saturn (limitations, depression, tragedy) is conjunct the IC. Mars (action) is conjunct the Descendant.
The event chart, by itself, denotes a tragic accident taking place. With Saturn and the Moon in the 4th house it is an accident possibly connected with water. In the event chart, by itself, there (to my admittedly limited eyes) appears to be very little indicating the outcome of this tragedy.
In fact, if I'd been given this event chart and was told that it involved an accident with an airliner, and was then asked if the event ultimately had a positive outcome - based on several factors, including a void of course Moon, I would given it a 50/50 or too close to call.
However, in retrospect, comparing the event chart of the Miracle on the Hudson along with Captain Sully's birth chart is quite frankly staggering. (the biwheel)
In comparing the two charts, among many other things, take special note of Captain Sully's birth North Lunar Node conjuncting the event's Midheaven.
If we had access to Captain Sully's exact birth time it would likely be even more staggering.
Captain Sully was born to be the pilot of that plane...
